Solar Garden Lighting -

Garden lighting adds an extra dimension to your garden – extending the day is just part of it. Outdoor lighting can provide a totally different vista in the night time garden.

Done properly lights can provide a warm & welcoming atmosphere and an alternative perspective from daylight. In order to create this you need more than the odd solar light stick randomly placed in a border. Garden lighting is all about thought and design. It can enhance the entrance to a garden and highlight trees, shrubs, porches and any special architectural features.

Outdoor living spaces can be expanded whilst safety and security for night time visitors can be improved. Dining al fresco is much safer when guests especially the elderly can assess the terrain. A pergola, arbour or other seating area benefits from down lighting in terms of practicality and ambiance.

Lawns can be very tricky to light as they require a large spread of strong light which tends to ruin the overall effect of the rest of the garden. A lawn area is therefore best left in darkness as it tends to frame the other places of interest that are lit and provide a strong emphasis on depth. Large trees are always fantastic to light and really make a garden stand out.

TOP GARDEN LIGHTING TIPS

1.      Don’t overlight. Less is more ! Extremely bright garden lighting often has a garish ,theatrical look.

2.      Don’t illuminate every surface. Shadow work to define highlighted areas.

3.      Avoid installing garden lights in the undergrowth of low shrubs or tall grasses .The beam of light needs unimpeded passage from the fixture to the focal point.

4.      Buy quality lights. Cheap lights will not work as well following a cloudy day and will probably only last one or two seasons.
